CIPHERS & CODES ESCAPE CHALLENGE

Cipher & Codes Escape Room is an exciting, hands on maths escape challenge designed to stretch high ability learners through advanced problem solving, logical reasoning, and the fascinating world of secret communication. Before the mission begins, students strengthen the productive learning dispositions needed for success by exploring how curiosity, persistence, flexible thinking, collaboration, and resilience help mathematicians tackle complex challenges. Once the escape challenge begins, students must use these skills to uncover the identity of the cheating mathematician before time runs out.

Throughout the workshop, students explore historical ciphers including the Atbash cipher and a variety of other code breaking techniques as they solve increasingly complex mathematical challenges. They decode hidden messages, identify patterns, apply logical reasoning, and crack secret codes to unlock new clues and eliminate suspects. Every challenge encourages students to think strategically, justify their reasoning, adapt their approach, and collaborate effectively as they work through the investigation.

By the end of the incursion, students will have strengthened their mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and critical thinking skills while discovering how mathematics, logic, and cryptography combine to solve an exciting mystery. Perfect for high ability learners, this workshop provides a rich and engaging challenge that aligns seamlessly with the Victorian High Ability Program in Mathematics.

PAYMENT INFORMATION

$45 + GST - Half day (2 - 2.5 hours)

$80 + GST - Full day (9am - 3pm The choice of two half day, high ability incursions for the same group)

5% discount on bookings over 100 student that attend, confirmed with final invoice.

INCURSION INFORMATION - HIGH ABILITY STUDENTS

Year 3-8 students: Workshops runs as a half day incursion with approximately 25 students.

Double classes with two presenters is also an option, approx 50 students.

A classroom/open learning space is required, along with access to a projector.

Student supervision by teachers is required throughout the session.
